Goals

CRST wants to ensure that drivers can create high quality scans of documents like proof of deliveries (PODs), receipts for reimbursement, scale tickets, or other load-related documents with a goal of not only speeding up the invoicing process, but also to provide an overall high-quality service with seamless documentation for their customers.

Requirements

CRST required a flutter compatible, high-quality scanning solution for their ~ 6,000 app users, that was easy to integrate. The quality of a scan is key because it provides major flexibility for further processing and text-extraction on the back end. Auto-detection of the scan, the offline functionality and the local functions leading to high data safety were nice to have features.

Solution

By integrating the Docutain SDK, CRST created a workflow in their app enabling their drivers to scan and submit documents, e.g. proof of deliveries, during and after the trip with the goal to speed up the entire workflow from start of trip, to invoicing.

How CRST prioritizes high-quality service for their customers

CRST replaced 3rd party SAAS applications and legacy truck stop tech, document management and workflow features, with a CRST native application. The reason for doing an in-house development was to ensure a high level of flexibility and meet individual demands that were not met before.

One aspect in this context was the implementation of the Docutain Scan and OCR SDK. In transportation, paperwork is still very prevalent, so CRST needed to ensure that they get quality scans of relevant documents.

The long-term goal foresees that drivers scan and submit the documents along the haul and make the shipping information available in real-time to expedite the workflow and alleviate the duty of entering data into an electronic form by the driver. In this context, high-quality of the documents, intertwined with high-quality service stays priority number 1 for one of Americas leaders in the transportation industry.
